HCG Diet Food List For Phase 1
Following the HCG diet requires various food restrictions, making it very difficult to for people to stick with it. People on the HCG Diet are usually exposed to 500-800 calorie diets depending on the protocol they chose to use. It is thus important to learn about the food varieties which can be consumed during each phase, so that the required nutrient intake will be properly achieved without absorbing other unnecessary fats, oils, sugar and starch.
During Phase 1 of the HCG diet, followers are restricted from eating carbohydrates, sugars, and fats, which are found mainly in processed and fast food meals. They will have to dwell more on fresh, raw produce, and pure white meat selections in order to boost weight loss effects.
Grains are sources of carbohydrates, thus breads, rice, pasta and other related foods are not allowed for consumption during Phase 1. The only type of bread allowed to be eaten is a piece of Melba toast or whole rye bread, as these contain the least amounts of starch, just enough to give the body the energy to last for the day.
All sorts of vegetables may be consumed during Phase 1. Preferred vegetables are those with green or read leaves, such as lettuce, cabbage, spinach, celery, broccoli, celery, and chard. Cucumber, radish, carrot and beet are also allowed in this phase, and they can be turned into shakes. Beans can also be eaten, but in small portions.
When preparing vegetables, make sure that they are fresh and served either raw or blanched (for those with bulky stems). Grilling vegetables is also a good option, as they retain their flavors unlike blanching or steaming. Greens may also be served in the form of salads. However, different vegetables should not be mixed in one meal.
Meat products are limited during Phase 1. Only white meat, such as veal and chicken are allowed to be consumed in bigger amounts, while beef and pork may only be served as alternatives. When preparing the meat, it is important to have all the fat removed so that it will not cause problems in the follower’s diet.
Processed meat products, such as sausages, hotdogs and ham, are not allowed.
Fish and Seafood
Fish and seafood are allowed to be eaten during the Phase 1 of the HCG diet mainly because of their low calorie count and high amounts of protein and niacin. Seafood meat includes crabs, scallops, mussels, and shrimp. Fish varieties may include carp, marlin, and tuna.
Fruits are limited to strawberries, apples, orange, lemon and grapefruit. All other varieties are not allowed in this diet due to their high sucrose content, which also boosts the dieter’s calorie intake. In Phase 1, dieters are recommended to eat an apple, grapefruit or handful of strawberries during mid mornings or afternoons; they can also turn the fruits into shakes or smoothies.
Milk products are likewise limited in a HCG diet. During Phase 1, skim milk may be served but only in very small amounts, as well as yogurt. Processed milk products which contain probiotics (such as Yakult) may be taken once a day to help cleanse the digestive track.
